The 2026 U.S. Open teed off Thursday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.

Wyndham Clark, who won the 2023 U.S. Open, leads at 6 under through 16 holes, as first-round play was suspended by darkness. Eight players are tied in second at 2 under: Sam Stevens, amateur Ryder Cowan, Max McGreevy, Matt Fitzpatrick, Dustin Johnson, Gary Woodland, Jon Rahm and Ben Kohles. Fitzpatrick, Woodland, Johnson and Rahm also have yet to finish their opening rounds.

Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau are both at 1 under, while Scottie Scheffler shot 1 over and is tied for 48th. Last year’s U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun had a nightmare round at 7 over.
