The Nigeria Police Force has appointed CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as its new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), replacing DCP Anthony Okon Placid.

The appointment was announced on June 19 by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, through a statement issued by the outgoing Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.

The appointment comes amid a series of changes in the Force Public Relations Department, with Iniedu becoming the third Police spokesperson in nine months after CSP Benjamin Hundeyin was appointed in September 2025 and replaced by DCP Anthony Okon Placid in March 2026.

What they are saying

The Police leadership described Iniedu as an experienced officer whose career spans public communication, intelligence operations, police administration, accountability initiatives and frontline policing assignments.

The Inspector-General of Police expressed confidence that Iniedu’s blend of operational and communication experience would strengthen the Force’s public engagement strategy and support ongoing reforms aimed at improving the image and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.

The statement also provided official communication channels through which journalists and members of the public can reach the new Force spokesperson.

  • “Members of the public and media stakeholders may contact the Force Public Relations Officer through the following channels: Phone: 08128526154; X (Formerly Twitter): @cspiniedu.”

Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu background

Iniedu hails from Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo.

Over the course of his career, he has completed several specialised trainings covering investigative interviewing, crime scene management, intelligence analysis, strategic communication and human rights-based policing.

  • Before his latest appointment, he headed the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he oversaw public complaint management and initiatives designed to improve transparency, accountability and public confidence in the Police.
  • He also previously served as Public Relations Officer at the Police College of Information Technology in Kobape, Ogun State.
  • His career has included several operational and administrative postings across the country, including serving as Operations Officer at the Maisandari Division in Yobe State.

He was also Area Crime Officer at the Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa, and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room.

While overseeing the Situation Room, he coordinated the nationwide monitoring, management and dissemination of crime and security information.

What you should know

The latest appointment continues a period of frequent changes in the office of the Force Public Relations Officer.

In September 2025, the Nigeria Police Force announced the appointment of CSP Benjamin Hundeyin as Force Public Relations Officer following approval by the then Inspector-General of Police.

However, Hundeyin remained in the position for only about six months before being replaced by DCP Anthony Okon Placid in March 2026.

Now, just three months after assuming office, Placid has also been replaced, making Iniedu the third officer to occupy the role within roughly nine months.
