Dr Mr. Victor Ekpenyong, Chief Executive Officer of Kenyon International West Africa Co. Ltd, has officially been appointed to the governing board of the World Energy Council (WEC) Nigeria Committee.
Serving a two-year term, Ekpenyong’s appointment puts an indigenous Nigerian operator at the table of one of the world’s most influential energy institutions, spanning over 100 countries and 3,000 member entities.

For the Nigerian energy sector, placing battle-tested technical operators alongside seasoned industry captains, regulators, and finance experts signals a deliberate shift toward embedding practical, field-level execution into macro-policy frameworks.
In an official statement shared earlier on his LinkedIn page, Ekpenyong reflected on the broader significance of the board’s mandate:
“I’m honoured to join the Board of the World Energy Council Nigeria Committee. For years, African energy leaders have carried out plans made elsewhere,” he wrote. “This appointment is a chance to help shape those plans; to bring Nigerian experience and judgment into rooms where global energy policy is decided. The World Energy Council is renowned for establishing global benchmarks, including the World Energy Trilemma Index, which ranks national energy performance across security, equity, and environmental sustainability.
