The Niger Delta Grassroots Organisation, NDGO, says with Mrs Ebiyemi Omatseye flying African Democratic Congress, ADC, flag, Warri federal constituency can now have a representative with antecedents and proven capacity to protect Warri’s multi-ethnic interests in the House of Representatives.
In a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Weyinmi Olley, the NDGO, stated: “Our choice of Mrs Omatseye does not merely satisfy Affirmative Action, requiring 30 percent of women in governance by successive administrations, she is a humane personality and practical voice for peace and unity of all indigenous tribes of Warri.
“Prior to split of Warri Local Government into present 3 LGAs of Warri North, Warri South and Warri South-West, Mrs Omatseye was the First Lady behind Prince Sunny Omatseye’s chaitmanship, which was a golden era of peace across ethnic groups in Warri. When crises broke out well after his tenure, Mrs Omatseye worked with her husband to ensuree their home remained open to Ijaw and other ethnic figures who were safe therein in the heat of the crises.
“Warri Federal Constituency has had over 16 unbroken years of male represention in the House of Representatives, with rising ethnic tensions in Warri year in, year out. We need a representative who can speak to the issues with a humanity that guarantees safety of lives across ethnic divides. Let us turn to Mrs Omatseye, a detribalised, accessible woman who had proven that safety of lives of Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo, matter!.”
