A recent declaration by the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, Mr. Karl Toriola, that it is not feasible to offer unlimited data over mobile has sparked debate among Nigerians, with many arguing otherwise.

From the debates, one thing is clear: every subscriber wants unlimited data offerings. While that is not being offered on mobile in Nigeria for now, the telecom operators are rapidly deploying fibre infrastructure, which enable them to offer affordable unlimited data plans.

Currently in Nigeria, the competition in the Fibre to the Home (FTTH) segment of the telecom market is getting stiffer as operators justle for more customers in the fast-evolving space.

It is noteworthy that despite the recent 50% hike in telecom tariffs, which affected the prices of voice calls, SMS, and data, Nigerians have continued to consume more data, as recent data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) suggests.

Confirming this at a recent forum in Lagos, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the NCC, Aminu Maida, said Nigerians are now consuming about 45,800 terabytes of data every day.

This is partly because the number of telecom companies offering unlimited data package has continued to grow while competition is driving down subscription price.

With the growing number of service providers offering fully unlimited data, the days of unlimited service with Fair Usage Policy (FUP) are gradually coming to an end.

While there now many operators offering unlimited data access, including mobile network operators and core ISPs, here are the top 10 cheapest unlimited data plans in Nigeria as of June 2026.
