StoReel Launches Canvas AI Platform for Microdrama Creators

StoReel, the AI-native short-form drama platform, has unveiled Canvas, an end-to-end production and monetization environment aimed at the next wave of microdrama creators.

The launch comes on the heels of a $34 million seed and user-acquisition financing round and represents the company’s push toward a full-stack ecosystem linking creators, technology, and audiences.

Canvas collapses what has typically been a fragmented production chain into a single workspace. Creators upload a script and the platform’s agent-powered system generates scene breakdowns, storyboards, character and setting references, and optimized prompts for leading AI video and image models. The workflow is designed specifically for serialized formats, with support for recurring characters, multi-episode continuity, and high-volume studio output – functions that generic AI video tools have not prioritized. Creators retain the ability to adjust shots, fine-tune prompts, and revise storyboards throughout.

The company says Canvas cuts production time by roughly two-thirds compared with conventional methods, while bringing costs to approximately 15% of what a live-action equivalent would require.

“Great storytelling shouldn’t be limited by production budgets or industry gatekeepers,” said Angela Yu, co-founder and co-CEO of StoReel. “Canvas abstracts away the technical complexity so microdrama creators can focus on what they do best, building characters, worlds, and stories.”

StoReel’s own release slate offers an early performance read. The AI-produced title “OMG! My Snowwhite Is a Man” recorded a cost per install of $4.63, below the $8 to $10 range the company reports for its traditional live-action dramas. Across its AI-native catalog, which now numbers more than 80 original series, average Day-7 retention runs 22% higher than comparable live-action titles.

Canvas also carries a monetization layer, positioning what StoReel terms PUGC – Professional User-Generated Content – creators as the primary beneficiaries rather than studios. The company operates two core products: the StoReel app, a direct-to-consumer viewing platform, and Canvas, which feeds content into it.
