Serving a two-year term, Ekpenyong’s appointment puts an indigenous Nigerian operator at the table of one of the world’s most influential energy institutions, spanning over 100 countries and 3,000 member entities.

The World Energy Council is renowned for establishing global benchmarks, including the World Energy Trilemma Index, which ranks national energy performance across security, equity, and environmental sustainability.

With presidential backing and direct indigenous representation, the re-established WEC Nigeria Committee provides a credible channel for global investors, IOCs, and international partners to engage with Nigerian energy governance at the highest level. The board’s formation ensures that as global transition rules evolve, they accurately reflect the operational and technical realities of frontier African markets.
